creative presentation

In this paragraph, I am writing about some symbols in hunger games and their effect on the film

what I am learning: About symbolism.
How does this work show my learningI have created a paragraph about symbols in hunger games What am I wondering as a result of this learning:  how the writers decided to use this symbolism

the mocking jay-

In the hunger games, the Mockingjay represents defiance and faith in the first movie katniss gets a mocking jay pin from the black market and it quickly becomes reminder for Katniss that she needs to have faith in herself to win the games so that she can return home to her sister. katniss later becomes district thirteens mocking jay to help them defeat the capitol and give everyone in district thirteen hope for victory and a better life. katniss and everybody else embarrassed the idea of mocking jay as a way of rebellion towards the evil Capitol that rules their world and their president, president snow.

The Silent Salute-

the silent salute represents respect and its a sign of gratitude, honour and admiration  in the reaping scene when katniss volunteers for her sister they all give her the silent salute because she volunteered and showed bravery and it was a sign of gratitude for her sacrifice and she was the first person to volunteer and in the scene were rue dies katniss gives district 11 the salute and they return the gesture

katniss's dress-

this was the dress that she wore at one of her interviews katniss after the first time she wore a fire dress witch was a black one she wore this when her and peeta were on the horses was known as the girl on fire so that's  what the dress symbolises it was also to symbolise her spirit witch as we see more later on in the films she is a very free spirit and doesn't like the capitols rules and we all know this because she later on helps district 13 take on the capitol as there mocking jay

*lighting/colour- mood- sad, gloomy- greys, darks, blacks, dim lighting- works with c/u to highlight emotions on the face

character/ dialogue  "I don't want them to change me"

" I don't want to be another piece in their game"

" if I'm going to die I wanna still be me "

theme- rich vs poor, hope & rebellion, struggle for power

what happened- Peeta and katniss are hearing a conversation about how the games might affect them

atmosphere- foreboding, hesitant, nervous, reluctant

- lighting & colour p.2

- dialogue p.1

- close-up p.3

in the scene 'they don't own me; dialogue is used to create a foreboding atmosphere.

Katniss and Peeta are having a conversation about how the upcoming games might affect them. this is demonstrated by the quotes " I don't want them to change me; and "if I'm going to die I still want to be me" spoken by Peeta. This shows that Peeta has a scene that he is going to have to do things that he doesn't want to do like kill others this makes the audience feel sorry for Peeta because he is most likely going to die or kill others to survive. the director did this to make us believe Peeta would die early and that being a tribute isn't something to celebrate but a loss of personal autonomy. this worked well with the dark colours of blacks and greys which adds to the foreboding atmosphere this aspect can be contrasted to when Peeta joins the career pact once in the games because they are cold-hearted killers which is what Peeta didn't want to be.

natural selection

explain a scenario an animal might find itself in where a random mutation makes it better at surviving

if an animal is venomous like some snakes or spiders or If it has big teeth like tigers and lions or big feet like kangaroos

Why wouldn't the giraffes grow longer necks just because the trees were tall?

because random genetic mutations caused some giraffes to be born with long necks and that gives them a higher chance of survival than the ones who don't have it

What needs to happen for a gene to become more common

the transfer of genes between populations as migration or between species in gene transfer evolution occurs when these genes become more common
